Metamorphoses of Law in the Visegrad countries

Roman Law

Roman Law as a foundation of private law - the project proposal

The project is based on the idea that Roman law in its modern form is the starting point of European civil law. The path to the harmonization and unification of civil law leads rather through the education of general legal terminology and of structures “actualized” Roman law, than through the creation of “original” national civil codes. The goal of the project shall be the modern textbook on Roman law. The cooperation has already started, in particular between the law faculty of Palacký University in Olomouc and the law faculty of Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan – dr. Petr Dostalík and prof. Wojciech Dajczak cooperate on the project “Civilian framework of the dogmatics of private law in Europe – national identity of the private law of Visegrad countries – factors and limits of the understanding and harmonization on the field of law of obligation in the Visegrad countries.” During discussions on 2011 workshop this project was supported by the results of the research of PES project, because from the structural and formal point of view the institutions of Roman law belongs to the most complex and elaborated institutions and they are thus the ideal model for the education of law students.
